Astro Boy — Cover

About Astro Boy

This system is built from the printed page of Tetsuwan Atomu, the manga Osamu Tezuka serialised in Kobunsha's Shōnen magazine from 1952 to 1968. The ground is white paper. Everything else is black brush ink and the 60% benday dot that does all of the shading.

Colour appears only where the character is coloured: vermilion boots, a teal waistband, warm skin. Layouts read as a spread of panels with hard gutters, and the occasional figure breaks through a border.
