About Ak-Kalpak Felt Hat
Ak-kalpak means "white hat" and nothing more. Four wedges of hand-felted, undyed sheep's wool are cut, wetted, rolled and seamed into a crown that stands up like a Tian Shan snow peak. Black velvet trims the turned-up brim; a single embroidered cord curls across it.
Everything in this system follows from that construction. Four-fold symmetry is the grid. Undyed white is the ground and most of the page. Black carries every line, every letter, every edge. Ornament is one cord, drawn once.
