About Air Niugini Livery 1975
Air Niugini started flying in 1973, three years after Papua New Guinea adopted a flag drawn by a fifteen-year-old schoolgirl. The airline took that flag apart and put it on an aeroplane: red tail, white bird-of-paradise, gold hairline, black caps.
The system here is the paint scheme, not a mood board. A cheatline runs the length of the body and sweeps up into the tail. Everything aligns to it. The bird is a flat reversed silhouette — crest, hooked beak, trailing plumes — and nothing else.
