Beirut's independent graphic-design scene is the most politically charged bilingual poster culture of the twenty-first century. Born from the post-2005 civil-society print boom and radicalized by the 2019 thawra, it runs on ink-black, sulfur-yellow, and crimson — Arabic letterforms cut, stretched, and overprinted on cheap newsprint until they read as protest itself.
The aesthetic rejects decoration and capital. It belongs to Hamra Street print shops at midnight: risograph posters drying on string, Arabic and Latin stacked so tight they collide, hard horizontal rules slicing the page like editorial deadlines. Design here is a civic act.
