FUI Sci-Fi HUD

ProMax

FUI — Fictional User Interface — is the screen-graphics craft born in film and VFX departments, where designers build the cockpit displays, tactical HUDs, and command consoles that never have to actually run, only to convince an audience in a fraction of a second that they could. Pioneers like Mark Coleran and studios like Territory Studio turned this into a disciplined visual language: thin glowing vector lines on a void-black field, ring dials that imply telemetry, scan grids that imply radar, and micro-numerals that imply a universe of data just outside the frame.

What makes FUI distinct from ordinary dashboard design is its total commitment to the illusion of depth and instrumentation — every arc, tick mark, and readout exists to sell motion and stakes, not to be read. It has since escaped the screen, becoming shorthand across gaming overlays, esports broadcast graphics, and product UIs that want to borrow a spaceship's sense of command and control.
