Arabia Paratiisi — Cover

About Arabia Paratiisi

Paratiisi is the decoration Birger Kaipiainen drew for the Arabia factory in Helsinki in 1969, reworked from his Expo 67 relief Orvokkimeri. Fruit, violets and blackcurrants crowd the plate corner to corner, every form closed with a near-black line and filled flat, silkscreened onto white vitrified porcelain.

The purple colourway sets plum and violet grapes over olive and leaf greens on a pale glazed ground. It is a printed system, not a painting: hard boundaries, solid colour, no shading, no breathing room. This palette keeps that logic — dark figure, light ground, pattern that crowds rather than decorates politely.
