Ferrofluid Spike Field

Ferrofluid Spike Field is physics rendered as dark, wet sculpture. Over a magnet, a suspension of surfactant-coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles climbs into the Rosensweig instability — a hexagonally-ordered lattice of glossy black spikes, each peak catching cool gunmetal and steel-blue reflections from its surroundings.

The palette is near-black body with a metallic sheen, a tight tonal range that never leaves the cool grays. Sharp conical peaks, deep valley shadows, specular highlights: an interface that reads as an oily, ordered, self-assembling material caught mid-motion under a field.
