Dutch Tulip Mania renders the most famous speculative bubble in history as a flower painting. At its 1636–37 peak, a single virus-flamed "broken" tulip such as the Semper Augustus could trade for the price of an Amsterdam canal house — a frenzy immortalized not in ledgers but in oil. This system speaks in the chiaroscuro of a Golden-Age still-life: a flame-red bloom feathered with white and violet striping, lifted from a deep near-black warm-brown niche. Gold and foliage-green accents carry the refinement; parchment off-white belongs only to the petals and cards, never the page.
