Dark Academia

Dark Academia is an internet-born aesthetic that romanticizes Western classical education — candlelit libraries, leather-bound volumes, fountain-pen marginalia, and the moody atmosphere of 1990s prep-school cinema. It crystallized on Tumblr around 2015, exploded on TikTok in 2020, and draws its emotional core from Donna Tartt's 1992 novel *The Secret History*.

As a design system it translates that literary nostalgia into warm parchment backgrounds, oxblood accents, classical serif typography, and generous reading columns that evoke the feel of a well-loved book spread open on a mahogany desk.
