Oracle Bone draws from jiaguwen — the earliest systematic Chinese writing, incised with a bronze graver into ox-scapula and turtle-plastron used for Shang pyromancy. Angular pictographs were rubbed with cinnabar or carbon to make them legible against divination cracks fanning across the surface.

The system honors what 3,000 years did to these bones: a deep tea-brown patina, not fresh ivory. Cinnabar reds, bone tans and carbon blacks carry the script; sharp incised strokes and hairline cracks frame every panel.
