Koi Pond

ProMax

Koi Pond looks straight down into the still, tea-green water of a Japanese garden pond, where ornamental nishikigoi — bred in the rice terraces of Niigata since the 19th century — glide as bright slips of Hi orange, Shiroji white, and red beneath the surface. The palette holds the contemplative deep-moss water as ground so the carp read as glimpsed, not displayed.

Concentric ripples, lily pads, and sinuous koi silhouettes layer over an ink-wash depth that darkens from surface to bottom. Period Japanese mincho serifs carry the type, lending the system the unhurried, brushed cadence of a pond watched over a long afternoon.
