Provençal Mediterranean is the sun-bleached terracotta-and-olive palette of warm farmhouse life across southern France, Tuscany, and the Greek islands. Terracotta roof tile, whitewashed limestone, olive foliage, painted-shutter blue, lavender fields, woven straw, hand-thrown ceramic — the surfaces of a long lunch under a fig tree.
Codified by Peter Mayle's *A Year in Provence* (1989), Frances Mayes's *Under the Tuscan Sun* (1996), and Slim Aarons's poolside photography, the style says the sun is generous and every object is touched by hand. Typography is classical serif and italic, evoking the village-market chalkboard; geometry is rounded, organic, and gently irregular.
