A new song of the hidden road
Under the
Greenwood Tree
Hear now the oath of the greenwood folk:
no crown may purchase a free-born heart,
nor toll be taken beneath these boughs.
Where the king's road crosses the elder shade,
the poor shall pass with their bread unspoiled,
and every proud purse answer the wood.
To be sung after sundown
