The Hour Between Colors

A small case for staying with the day until its edges soften, and for treating attention as a place we can return to.

Last November, I began leaving my desk at 6:17, the moment the office glass turned from reflection to window. The walk to the river takes nine minutes; long enough for the day’s notifications to lose their authority and for two colors to share the same sky.

A small ritual makes room for the signal

At the footbridge, the city becomes a set of patient intervals: trains pass, the water holds the last cyan, and a red thread on a stranger’s wrist catches the light. Nothing announces itself. The practice is simply to stay until the gradient finishes, then carry that attention home.
