III black, four ways

Black is never one colour.

I

A charcoal that holds the shoulder.

Densest wool of the season — used where the garment must remember the body. Coats, shoulders, the front of trousers.

Smoke 950 · matte wool
II

An ash that lets the seam breathe.

A grey that is almost black until it moves. We use it for inner panels and for any place a stitch should disappear.

Ash 500 · drape lining
III

A smoke that catches the light.

The brightest grey we permit. Reserved for thread, buttonholes, the inside of a cuff — never for surface.

Smoke 300 · detailing only
IV

A shadow that finishes the hem.

Near-pitch. It is what the eye reads as black; it is where the silhouette ends and the room begins.

Pitch 050 · base ground
