The wall remembers what paint forgets

Last January, in a north-facing room near San Polo, I watched rain darken a marmorino wall by degrees. The surface did not become a different color; it became more itself. Each trowel pass surfaced slowly, like a sentence revised until its rhythm finally holds.

Light is part of the finish

We have learned to call white a neutral, as if it arrived without history. But lime, marble dust, and a maker’s hand leave a quieter record. A burnished wall asks very little of a room: daylight, time, and the patience to notice its changing depth.
