In 1966, a rubber shop in Anaheim gave a familiar grid a new job. The pattern was easy to copy, hard to ignore, and built for the pace of the curb.
A pattern you could make yourself
By the early eighties, the checker had moved from hand-drawn slip-ons to deck parks and movie screens. It never softened; it kept its footing while everything around it changed.
