ꔀ I spent two winter weeks with a photographed folio whose surface was neither ivory nor clean. The page was warm brown, fibrous at the edge, and crowded with syllables written close enough that every hook seemed to lean into the next.

Density is not disorder

The rows look severe until the hand becomes visible: a heavier downstroke after a breath, a rounded turn where ink gathered, a gap where the writer corrected the count. That discipline matters because the script was not borrowed decoration; it was a working instrument for letters, accounts, and memory.

The manuscript does not ask to be translated into polish. It asks to be read as a page that already knew its own authority.
