Chapter III · On the Hand of the Painter
Rishton Atelier · Lookbook MMXXVI · 07 / 18
Four marks of a Rishton-made plate

What the brush keeps, and what it lets go of.

An almond, never a stencil.

Each motif is brushed freehand from memory; two plates from the same kiln are never quite twins.

Cobalt over a single white slip.

One pigment, one ground — the painter has nowhere to hide, and the work earns its honesty.

Ishkor glaze, fired at low heat for depth.

A plant-ash glaze cooled at 950°C — softer than industrial blues, with a sheen that wakes in lamplight.

An iron-brown rim, to anchor the blue.

A thin band of copper-oxide turquoise and earth-brown holds the cobalt florals to the plate's edge.
