Chapter II Principles of the Luminous Interior
Slide 07 / 18

What stays clear.

Address to the Council Everytown · MMXXXVI

I.Glass before ornament.

Every surface in the city is Lucite, Plexiglas, or polished plaster. We hold to the rule: if a thing cannot be seen through, it must be reduced.

II.Daylight from above.

The roof is a single calibrated disc — 1,800 candela at noon, dimmed to 240 by curfew. No room receives a private lamp.

III.Rooms that hold their breath.

Furnishings are severe and few: one chair per body, one table per task, no cabinet that cannot be lifted by two hands.

IV.One silhouette for the citizen.

A single tunic, a single sandal, a single shorn head — issued in silver-grey and worn by ninety-two thousand without complaint.
