I walked into a cafe on Ari Soi 4 in March 2019, expecting another Instagram trap with mediocre espresso. What I found was a pink-walled room with a hand-pour-over station and a Thai-script chalkboard listing single-origin beans from Chiang Rai.
From Kyoto to Thonglor
The lineage is traceable. Bangkok's early third-wave adopters borrowed from Japanese cafe minimalism — marble counters, pour-over choreography, muted palettes. But around 2018, the city started coloring outside those lines. Pink appeared first as an accent, then as a wall, then as an entire identity.
