The seam should stay visible

A stitched edge can carry more authority than a polished surface, especially when every colour has to meet its neighbour without apology.

Last winter I watched a bootmaker sort cut leather on a narrow table: emerald beside red, cobalt beside yellow, no two edges allowed to overlap. The discipline looked severe until the first gold thread turned the joins into a map of decisions.

Joining is the ornament

Modern product language often hides construction, then calls the silence luxury. The older lesson is sharper: let the join speak. A visible seam admits friction, shows labour, and turns contrast into structure instead of surface decoration.
