Chapter II / How the bronze was made · பஞ்சலோகம்
Slide 04 / 12
Four movements of the lost-wax process

A figure is poured once,
then remembered for a thousand years.

I

Wax that thinks in motionமெழுகு

The artisan models the dancer in beeswax, free-hand, without sketches — every fluid limb arc and flying jata locks decided in the soft material before the metal ever exists.

Day 1–4 Wax
II

A clay mantle, layered like skinகளிமண்

Three coats of paddy-husk clay are built around the figure and slow-dried in shade. The first coat must catch every fingerprint of the wax; the outer coats hold the heat of pouring.

Day 5–11 Mould
III

Five metals, one pourபஞ்சலோகம்

Copper, tin, lead, with traces of silver and gold, are melted together to a pañcaloha within roughly twenty parts: a single chance, a single breath, the mould refilled to the lip in under a minute.

Day 12 Pour
IV

The patina is the finishபதிவு

Chisel and file recover the eyes, the fingers, the ring of fire — then time alone is asked to deepen the surface into blackish-brown bronze with copper highlights on every raised edge.
