Voltage control is musical logic

Every patch cord carries a decision. The envelope generator does not care whether its output opens a filter or modulates an oscillator—it applies the same curve either way. This indifference is the heart of modular thinking. You are not selecting a preset; you are building a circuit that happens to produce sound. The distinction matters because it changes where you place your attention. Preset-based instruments ask what something sounds like. A modular asks what a connection does.

A synthesizer is not a keyboard instrument with extra knobs. It is a voltage laboratory that happens to have a keyboard attached.
