The first time my Avenger blew a coolant line, I was eighteen jumps deep into a contract that paid by the minute. I had bolted on a Klaus-Werner Bolide because the broker at Lorville Spaceport told me, with a straight face, that anyone running stock thrusters was leaving credits on the deck plating. He was not lying — he was just not counting the repair bays.

What the spec sheets refuse to print

Industry telemetry from the Stanton corridor tells a quieter story than the marketing reels. Across a three-month window I logged forty-one runs on the same Hurston–Arial loop, swapping between a tuned Bolide and a stock Atlas. The Bolide arrived 11.4% faster on average. It also spent 31% more time in the bay and burned through a manifold every nineteen jumps. Once you price in the maintenance, the slower drive paid for itself before the second pay cycle.
