What the stone decides

Before the section drawings, we walk the site. The granite that comes out of the excavation is the granite that goes into the building — no transport, no substitution.

A wall is sized for what it carries, not for what it expresses. Lighting and atmosphere arrive after the load path, never instead of it.

Where two materials meet we open the gap, not close it. A 20 mm reveal does the work a moulding used to do, and ages without retouching.

We specify the cut — split-face, sawn, bush-hammered — and then leave the surface to the rain. After fifteen winters the building looks correct, not new.
