The case for killing your 1000Hz ceiling

Every flagship mouse now polls at 8kHz. After three months on a desk full of them, I'm convinced most of you are paying for a number you can't feel.

I spent last winter rebuilding my test rig around a single question: at what point does a faster polling rate stop mattering to the hand on the mouse? The marketing answer is "never." The bench answer, after 40 hours of frame-captured aim drills, is somewhere around 2kHz for nearly everyone I tested.

What the oscilloscope actually showed

Between a 1kHz and an 8kHz sensor, the measured input delta was 0.6 milliseconds. Real, repeatable, and below the threshold of every player we put in the blind test. The CPU overhead, meanwhile, was not subtle — one esports pro saw frame stutters appear the moment we crossed 4kHz on a mid-tier chassis.

Chase the spec sheet, but trust the hand; the ceiling sits lower than the box says.
