Constraint as Infrastructure
We had spent three years building comfortable testing environments—wide corridors, simulated natural light, motivational plaques reading ‘Progress Is Inevitable.’ Completion rates plateaued at 12 percent. The turning point came in February, when we sealed the observation windows and replaced ambient illumination with a single fluorescent strip running north to south. The subjects moved faster. They stopped asking questions that had no answers.
