Trust is the only feature that ships

In a world of instant transfers and crypto experiments, the companies that endure are the ones people actually believe in.

Last January, our team spent three weeks debating whether to add instant settlement to Vault's peer-to-peer transfers. The feature was technically ready. The risk models were solid. Every competitor had shipped it months earlier. We killed it anyway, and it was the best product decision we made all year.

The speed trap

Move fast and break things sounds inspiring until you're the one explaining to forty million users why their rent payment vanished into a settlement queue. At our February board review, I walked through the data: 94% of failed transfers on instant-settlement platforms happened because users didn't understand the irreversibility. The problem was never latency. It was comprehension.
