Last August, we left Port Meridian with a clean chart and a generous deadline. By noon, a broken compass had us circling the Chalkwater Shoals; by dusk, the crew had traded the schedule for a lantern-lit supper on a dock we had never marked.

A map is a promise, not a command

That detour changed the way we work. We now pin the fixed points—water, weather, the people waiting at the far end—then leave room for the tide to edit the route. The best arrivals still feel a little like discoveries: salt on the sleeves, ink on the hands, and one more story than we planned.
