The Problem With Literal Maps

But underground, geography dissolves — the rider experiences distance in minutes and transfers, not meters. A map that prioritizes surface truth over cognitive truth commits a fundamental category error.
A diagram is not a simplification of reality. It is a different kind of reality entirely.
