II · The Doctrine of Stone 03 / 12
Four Principles of the Practice

What the Stone Asks

Symmetry earns trust
Every plan resolves to a single axis — the eye finds its centre before it reads a word.
The arch outlives fashion
A semicircle answers gravity the same way in 1923 as it will in 2123 — no style to date it.
Letters cut, never printed
Roman capitals incised into travertine read as inscription, not signage — gravity over noise.
Restraint is the ornament
We subtract until only proportion remains — the empty wall does the work of a frieze.
