The Loom & the Dye

ແສ່ວໄໝ · What the Field Holds
Four threads make the
pha sin
1
A purple that takes
two dyes to reach
Indigo first, then over-dyed in lac-insect red — the aubergine field deepens only after both baths set.
2
Mat-mi diamonds,
tied before the weft is wet
Each ikat motif is bound and resist-dyed on the thread, so the pattern lives inside the silk, not on top of it.
3
Gold brocade that floats,
thread by thread
Supplementary weft lays fine metallic lines over the ground — naga and temple figures catch light as the wearer moves.
4
A tiered hem that
reads as a sentence
Head, body, and foot bands stack in fixed order — region and rank legible to anyone who knows the weave.
