On the Gulf edge, the first thing the towers hold is attention. Opened on 1 March 1979, their pale shafts lift three blue-green spheres above the city, making a municipal reserve legible from the road, the sea, and the dark beyond.
Storage becomes a civic landmark
The detail is quieter than the silhouette. About 41,000 enamelled steel discs step through eight shades, their spiral courses catching floodlight like a measured tide. The smallest tower stores nothing; it lights the other two, so the night image belongs to the original engineering brief.
