The Circle Defines All

Radial symmetry precedes meaning

A crest must read as balanced from any orientation, before the viewer identifies the motif itself.

The enclosing circle is the origin of all proportion

Every stroke, curve, and margin derives its measure from the en-mon frame that contains it.

Reduction reveals the essential mark

Strip away decoration until only the irreducible silhouette remains — that is the true crest.

Negative space completes the composition

The unpainted surface within the crest is as deliberate and considered as the ink itself.
