The case for friendlier dashboards
Enterprise tools can be serious without turning every decision into a grey table and a quarterly steering meeting.
I spent two weeks last winter rewriting the billing console for a logistics team that ran its whole morning from one browser tab. The first prototype was precise, fast, and impossible to like. Every screen looked as if it had been assembled for an audit.
On the third pass we stopped treating clarity as austerity. Blue chips replaced dense status columns, empty states got short sentences, and the weekly export became a button people could find before their coffee cooled.
Soft does not mean vague
A rounded interface still has to make hard calls. When a route missed its window, the product said so in plain language, then offered the next two actions instead of burying the operator in filters.
