Black Cloth, Bright Thread
On Kalocsa’s black ground, colour is not decoration. It is a decision about what deserves to be seen.
Colour is a decision made before the stitch
Last November, in a workroom off Kalocsa’s Szent István street, I watched Erzsébet Farkas turn a black panel toward the window. The ground stayed quiet; every white daisy and pink petal became a small, deliberate flare.
She did not begin with a pattern. She began with the cloth, then placed the large blooms, then the small buds that close the gaps. That order is the discipline: abundance is built, not scattered.
