Keep Old Pages Dark

I spent two weeks last winter beside Mina Qadir as she tested a fragment under a lamp no warmer than breath. Each decision was a refusal: no cream backing, no polished gold, no corrected letterforms. The page asked to remain dark.

Austere pages carry more evidence

The archive chose restraint. A narrow cradle, a low beam, and a caption dated 912 were enough; the rest belonged to the dyed skin, the flat leaf, and the silence between each wide line.
