A century of public graphics keeps returning to one hard lesson: distance rewards compression, contrast, and discipline.
I spent two weeks last winter measuring old station posters in Leipzig, copying the proportions into a ruled notebook while commuters moved around me. The best sheets did not whisper. They organized the wall with black weight, fixed color, and a headline that behaved like masonry.
